The President of Ukraine had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Alfonso María Dastis Quecedo who is on a visit to Ukraine.
Petro Poroshenko confirmed Ukraine’s unwavering position of support for the territorial integrity of Spain in the context of the recent events regarding Catalonia.
In his turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain noted that his country fully supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The need to preserve the existing regime of the EU sanctions against Russia until the end of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty was emphasized.
The parties shared views on the topical issues of Ukraine-Spain relations. They stressed the importance of maintaining regular contacts at the highest level, including the exchange of visits.
Petro Poroshenko and Alfonso María Dastis Quecedo agreed that Ukraine and Spain had a significant potential to enhance cooperation in trade-economic and investment spheres.
The Foreign Minister of Spain noted Ukraine’s progress on reforms and confirmed that Spain would keep on facilitating Ukraine in the implementation of its European integration aspirations.
In the context of the enhancement of interpersonal contacts between the two countries, the parties agreed to open the Institute of Cervantes in Kyiv and the Ukrainian Institute in Madrid.
